Abfab Silk News :15th March 2009

Hi there everyone!

Hope you're happy and doing whatever it is you love!

Plus I hope the colours which surround you are bright and vibrant and make you feel like singing!  I've recently joined a weekly rock and soul choir, so I get to sing outside the car and shower haha - it's been marvellous fun!

The Winner of February's Silk Chiffon Scarf is ...

Beautiful handpainted silk chiffon scarves by Teena Hughes
Beth Mastrude of California!

Congratulations Beth! I will email you and get your mailing address, and give you a choice of silk chiffon scarves to choose from. I hope you enjoy wearing it and please do send a photo!

Wow!

What a week it's been - the Fashion Expo was so much fun, and I met so many wonderful people with whom I would normally never come into contact in such a short space of time. I must give a huge thank you to my friends Anca and Jan for helping me get organised and for spending time with me on the booth - both great saleswomen I've now found out :-)

Over the 3 days I made new friends, lots of new contacts, and I have some Quotations to send off to potential clients for my handpainted silk wearable art - woohoo! Here is part of the booth I had at the Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour (Sydney):

Above:  The Teena Hughes Wearable Art Collection was a selection of Haori jackets and TeenaTops in crinkle silk chiffon, sandwashed silk and silk charmeuse, in my trademark bright colours.

Above: The Teena Hughes Home Decorating Collection consisted of a selection of handpainted silk cushion covers with several pieces of handpainted silk on the roll, draped lusciously - ooh I love these colours! Do you like them?

I was in good company - I had a dozen up and coming designers alongside me, and we all had lots in common, and helped each other for set-up, take-down and daily encouragement.

It was a wonderful adventure - I wish you could have been there to share it with me!

In the right-hand column of the blog, you will see several widgets - one at the top of the page shows all the photos throughout my blog, starting from the first day I posted a photo, and is quite a little trip down memory lane for me.

Further down the blog is a widget which shows the videos I have posted online, including how to paint on silk, which some of you might find interesting.

Another widget shows the recent 'posts' or messages I've written in the blog. For those unfamiliar with blogs, the home page always shows the lastest most recent post that I've written. There is always an Archive or Recent Posts widget or menu so you can also view older posts.

My blogs also have a Search box at the top of the page - want to know about the shoes I made? Type in - shoes - and see the different posts I've written - have fun! Psst! here are the shoes I made :-)

Why have a blog and a newsletter? Good question! Blogs are for little updates every few days, and newsletters are once or twice a month for me.

Handpainted Silk Sea Creatures

Handpainted silk squid by Teena Hughes of AbfabDesigns.com in hot pink and orangeI have several really cute creatures I've been painting on silk for a long time which I affectionately call Silk Marinara.

I thought it might be a really good time to bring them to life again by putting them onto coffee mugs, journals etc (to be available through my store) - shipping is from USA or Australia, depending on your location.

I'll also be painting them onto new cushion covers in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for their launch!

In my Studio

My cat Ms Mooshie Mushka is a gorgeous Burmese I rescued when I lived at the top of Australia, and she's always with me, keeping me company.  While I was painting recently, I wondered where she was as she usually sleeps near my feet, wherever I'm working.

I glanced over to the sofa where I had a few different types of silk, and there she was - snuggled, comfy and ready for sleep amongst the silk. Mooshie certainly has good taste, and this was a first!

If you''d like to see more pics of Mooshie, I've posted a couple on my blog:

That's it for today, I'll be in touch soon with photos of the new clothing I'm making!
